2018 NFL Mock Draft: Full Order and Post-Super Bowl Outlook
The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions. Nick Foles led the Eagles to a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots Sunday in a thriller.
And with that, we can officially begin mock draft season.
But for a coin-flip to determine who picks ninth and who picks 10th, the draft order is set. The underclassmen have declared, and we suddenly have a whole lot more time on our hands now there's no football to watch.
Here's a look at the latest projection for how the first round could shake out.
Mock Draft
1. Cleveland Browns: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Josh Rosen is the best quarterback in this class. Josh Rosen is also an acquired taste, stating he would rather play for the "right" team rather than go high in the draft.
The Cleveland Browns, should they take him, are that team. They should have no qualms about a polarizing personality entering their locker room because they have been lifeless for so long. Their quarterback roster has been a barren wasteland of forgettable faces—and Johnny Manziel.
There's no point in overthinking this. Take Rosen and finally get a franchise face who could give you some identity.
2. New York Giants: Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Eli Manning could, theoretically, start a couple more seasons. But we have seen his performance level of late, and it's not good enough to compete at a high level. The New York Giants have an opportune time to go all-in on the future, and Sam Darnold could be their answer.
Darnold threw for 4,143 yards and 26 touchdowns against 13 interceptions during his sophomore season at USC, with a bit of a Manning-esque penchant for making bad decisions.
Case Keenum is also a potential option in free agency should new coach Pat Shurmur want to bring him over from the Minnesota Vikings. Keenum is an unrestricted free agent and is coming off a breakout campaign under Shurmur's tutelage.
That said, Darnold's ceiling is significantly higher than anyone else the Giants could use to replace him.
3. Indianapolis Colts: Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay all but spelled out he's looking for a Saquon Barkley-type player in this draft.
"You put [Andrew Luck] on that field healed up, and all the sudden you put an Edgerrin James-type of player, maybe, with that bigger, faster, stronger, and let this man continue the job that he's already begun to do," Irsay told reporters. "This is going to be a special place to be and a special place to play."
Barkley is the best player in this class. He's a three-down back who is arguably more complete than Ezekiel Elliott or Leonard Fournette were coming out of school, thanks in large part to his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. When watching him, you see a more powerful LeSean McCoy—and that's about as high of a compliment as you can give.
