Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique has agreed a new deal at the Camp Nou that will keep him at the club until 2022.

The Catalan giants confirmed the news on Thursday via their official website and announced the new contract includes a buyout clause worth €500 million.

The statement further explained the date for the official signing of Pique's new contract would be announced in the coming days.

The Spain international's previous contract was set to expire in 2019.

A graduate of Barcelona's La Masia academy, Pique has been a stalwart of the Blaugrana's defence since he returned to the club in 2008 after a four-year spell at Manchester United.

The 30-year-old has won six La Liga titles with Barca and three UEFA Champions Leagues, among numerous other trophies.

Assuming he stays fit, Pique still has a number of seasons left in the prime of his career, and Barca are clearly confident he has a big role to play until at least 2022.
