24/7 Pacquiao/Cotto Debuts Saturday On HBO

King JOct 20, 2009

This Saturday, 24/7 Pacquiao/Cotto debuts on HBO 10:15PM ET/PT.

But right now, you can watch some intimate interviews with both Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto by Max Kellerman on HBO On Demand. Kellerman has both of them sitting down in chairs facing each other and asks them deep questions about this upcoming fight.

Such as what it means to them, their people and family.

Kellerman even asks them if they will feel each other out or just jump on each other from the opening bell. Both fighters grin at that idea. They bring up the comparison of this matchup to the styles of Hagler vs Hearns and Duran vs Hearns.

He even asks Cotto how he feels about how some are saying Pacquiao will blow him out early on. Cotto responds that he will just have to capitalize on Pacquiao's mistakes.

It seems that both fighters are respecting each other and refraining from trash talk, but then again, both of these fighters usually never trash talk. They do their talking in the ring with their fists.

Parts of the interview can also be seen on HBO.com where both fighters talk about the significance of their tattoos.

Manny's first tattoo was done by himself at the age of 13; it's a boxing glove on his chest. We learned that Miguel's Chinese characters on his neck are the initials of his and his wife's. His favorite tattoo is his son's name.

There is even an interview with Manny's trainer, Freddie Roach, where he talks about how Manny is his favorite and most prized fighter; and calls him his favorite son.

He talks about the day Manny walked into his gym with his manager and asked to do some mitt work. Both Freddie and Manny decided they were made for each other as a team from that point on.

Freddie even talks about the day Muhammad Ali came in to hit the bags and spar with his daughter Laila. He said Ali and him both have muscle memory and when they start training, doing pad work and throwing combos in the ring, they are fine.

Max then asks if there any last words for their fighter?

Manny tells Cotto to train hard and he will do the same. Cotto says the fight fans will be the real winners come fight night; implying that this fight will be historical.

I personally believe this to be true.

Again, we have the two most exciting fighters who have been keeping the sport of boxing alive for the last several years. Both Cotto and Pacquiao are action packed fighters who come to fight. They do not hold or run or dance their way to a boring decision; they fight to win over new fans.
