Super Bowl LII Paths
New England Patriots
With home-field advantage throughout the rest of the AFC playoffs, the New England Patriots have a big edge on the rest of the AFC playoff field. They also have the easiest matchup in the divisional round as they face a Tennessee Titans team that ranks 18th in overall team efficiency, per Football Outsiders.
A potential rematch with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship looms. Pittsburgh and the Pats played one of the year's best regular-season games, which ended in a 27-24 New England victory. New England would also have home-field advantage against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who it did not play this year.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have a chance to do what no team has done in the Super Bowl era, and that's play for the Lombardi Trophy in their own home stadium. In addition, Minnesota can become the only team to never leave its home field for the entirety of the playoffs.
They kick off their postseason with a matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who they beat 29-19 in Week 1. The Vikings would be home against the Atlanta Falcons if the latter beat the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Vikings would have to travel east for the NFC Championship should Philly win. Minnesota beat Atlanta 14-9 but did not face the Eagles this year.
Pittsburgh Steelers
As noted by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, wideout Antonio Brown should be at full strength for the divisional round, which is a big boost against a Jaguars team the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to 30-9 earlier this year.
In fairness, Brown being at full strength then (he caught 10 passes for 157 yards) didn't stop the Jags from winning by three scores, but Pittsburgh is a 7.5-point favorite, per OddsShark.
Pittsburgh would probably prefer to see Tennessee upset New England in the divisional round, which would mean an AFC Championship home game. The Steelers beat the Titans earlier this year and would host them again, while they lost to the Pats by just three points in a classic.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are heading back to Minneapolis, where they lost to the Vikings in Week 1, 29-19. It's a different ballgame this time around, as Saints running back Alvin Kamara was third on the depth chart at his position then. Now he's thriving in a two-man timeshare with Mark Ingram, so Minnesota needs to somehow figure out a way to stop him.
If New Orleans wins, it could potentially head back home to face the sixth-seeded Falcons, who are favorites against the Philadelphia Eagles, per OddsShark. If the Eagles win, then New Orleans heads north.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons are on the road for the rest of the playoffs by virtue of being the NFC's sixth seed, but they have a good draw against an Eagles team that has not fared well since starting quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a torn ACL in Week 14.
A win in Philadelphia would mean a road game against New Orleans or Minnesota, two teams the Falcons played in the regular season.
Atlanta split its season series with New Orleans, but Alvin Kamara missed most of the Falcons' win with a concussion suffered in the first half. In the other contest, the Saints won 23-13 at home. The Falcons hung tough with Minnesota but lost 14-9.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have a tough divisional-round draw against the Atlanta Falcons, who not only have playoff experience, but also a defense that is red-hot heading into the second round.
The Falcons have given up just 23 points in their past two games and held the hot Los Angeles Rams offense to just 13 in their wild-card matchup.
If Philadelphia wins, it will host New Orleans or Minnesota in the wild-card round. The Eagles did not play either team in the regular season.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are staring down a rematch with the Steelers in the divisional round. If they pull off the upset, then they'll face either the New England Patriots or Tennessee Titans in the AFC championship.
Although it lost twice to Tennessee, Jacksonville would likely want to see the Titans over the Pats, as the Jags would have home-field advantage against the former team. The Jags did not face New England this year.
Tennessee Titans
If the Titans upset the Patriots and the Jaguars do the same against the Steelers, then Tennessee will be playing a Jacksonville team it beat twice this season by a combined score of 52-26. That's easier said than done, however, as Tennessee is a 13.5-point underdog against New England, per OddsShark.
If Tennessee does beat the Pats, it could also the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. These two teams would meet in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers beat the Titans 40-17 earlier this year thanks to three Antonio Brown touchdowns.
