Cancer and Sports Part 21: Ryan Howard Ties a Record! We Won!!!!

Judy DavidsonOct 19, 2009

Congrats to Ryan Howard who has tied Lou Gehrig's record of consecutive games with an RBI   in the post season. Gehrig set the record by recording an RBI in eight consecutive playoff games from 1928 to 1932, so if Howard breaks it in a single season, it will be all the more special.  Gehrig also did not have the lengthy playoff season because they did not have playoffs - they only had the World Series, 7 games at the most.  What a set up for the World Series.  J Rol hitting one right off the bat, Howard ties a record!  We just need this win.

AND...I am at the computer a few feet from the TV  (Angels just won, 11th inning) listening to Jeff cheering and enjoying a game he might have been at.  Instead he is lying in bed watching on the TV  (50" so he is not suffering).  Bottom of the second and if there is another hit it is safe for me to actually watch the game and not be a jinx (I hope).

I am a jinx so back at the computer.  One run for Dodgers is one run too many!  The poor 1st base umpire hit on the ankle by a (Dodgers) ballIt is Dodgers 4 Phils 3, oh the worrying has begun!  Our bats better heat up or I am doomed to play Bejeweled and just listen to the game....Speaking of the game and listening... I cannot stand Chip Caray - he is more excited when discussing a Dodger's fielding than Ryan Howard tying the record.   His grandfather was Harry Caray and that is what I want to commit listening to him drool over the Dodgers!   Phillies hostile?  Were the Dodgers showering Phillies with daisies?

I am finishing this blog early with Jayson Werth the 3rd out in the 8th...Jeff is hopeful and that is good.  It is the 9th and we can always come back but their closer throws balls over 100 mph so I doubt it.  I am counting on a World Series for Jeff.  He has heavy sighs and is telling me all the things he called correctly - including the score but with the Phils on top.

I hope the Phils have a little more fight in them tonight but, either way,  on to game 3 tomorrow.  Lidge is in and hope tonight he is Lights Out! Time to flush Jeff's pic lines.  When Phillies lose,  cancer wins in our house.  That is just how much it means to a real Philly Fanatic!

We did it and Jeff is jumping up and down...J Rol is my hero tonight...they don't give up so Jeff won't give up!  Whoo hoo Phillies!  And so another night that you keep cancer out of my house!  G-d and Harry Kalas are smiling tonight!
