Bludgeon Brothers Are Perfect Next Challengers for The Usos After Title Win

Mike ChiariDec 17, 2017

The Usos defeated New Day, Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable, and Rusev and Aiden English to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championships in a Fatal 4-Way at Clash of Champions on Sunday in Boston, which opens the door for some imposing new challengers to step up.

After months off television, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan recently reunited to form The Bludgeon Brothers, and they have left a wake of destruction in their path on the blue brand.

With victories over the since-disbanded Hype Bros as well as some enhancement talent, The Bludgeon Brothers have essentially been untouchable since their return to WWE programming.

Although Harper and Rowan have been repackaged, they have a ton of experience teaming together dating back to NXT.

The physical duo came up to the main roster as part of The Wyatt Family with Bray Wyatt, and their careers have featured several twists and turns since then.

Harper and Rowan had success as a team under The Wyatt Family umbrella before parting ways and embarking on a singles run.

While Rowan didn't accomplish much as a babyface, Harper filled the monster heel role effectively and became Intercontinental champion, although his reign didn't last long.

Another Wyatt Family reunion was short-lived as well, and they once again struggled to find their way as singles competitors before the creative team decided to put them back together as a tag team without the guidance of Wyatt.

Their emergence comes at an intriguing time for the SmackDown Live tag team division since it is arguably deeper and more talented than ever before.

That much was apparent Sunday, as The Usos, New Day, Gable and Benjamin, and Rusev and English are all quality performers. Even beyond that, Breezango has established itself as a hugely popular face duo who receive positive reactions from the crowd due to entertaining personas.

Conversely, The Bludgeon Brothers are a no-nonsense pairing focused on beating down the opposition and imposing their will.

There isn't another team on SmackDown that brings a skill set similar to what The Bludgeon Brothers possess, and that makes them an ideal option to step up as No. 1 contenders for the titles.

An argument can be made for continuing to build The Bludgeon Brothers up through squash matches, but the viewing audience is already well aware of what Harper and Rowan bring to the table.

Even though their gimmick is new, they have no shortage of experience as a team on the main roster. They are more than ready to take a crack at the titles.

Despite the success Harper and Rowan have enjoyed together, they have never won tag team championships on the main roster, which gives them a significant goal to chase.

They have faced and had great matches against many different types of teams in the past, and there is little doubt they will be able to put on some strong performances against The Usos.

The Bludgeon Brothers have more momentum now than perhaps any time during their WWE tenure, and rather than waiting too long to push them to the top, now is the best time to insert them into the title picture and ensure they remain red-hot.
