The Phillies pounded the Dodgers 11-0 on Sunday night in Philadelphia. Dodger starter Hiroki Kuroda had no command of his pitches and gave up six runs and six hits in an inning and-a-third.
The Phillies hit two doubles, two triple and two homers in the contest that enabled the Phillies to move to within two wins of playing their second consecutive World Series.
Cliff Lee dominated the Dodger hitters by throwing eight innings of scoreless baseball while striking out 10 with no walks. His 2009 postseason record is 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA. He has allowed only two runs in 24 innings and has struck out 20 while walking three.
Lee and Pedro Martinez have combined to give up only two runs in 31 innings in the postseason. Their pickups during the summer were a key to the Phillies success in the regular season also with them having a combined 12-5 record.
Ryan Howard finished the game with three more runs batted in giving him 12 for the postseason in 26 at bats. Last year in their World Championship season Howard posted nine runs batted in while batting 52 times so he is far ahead of that pace this postseason.
