Student Who Battled Cancer, Made Half-Court Shot Will Travel with 76ers
As Tom Layberger of FootballMatters reported last November, high school student Mike Shelly overcame cancer en route to completing an awe-inspiring return to the football field.
On Saturday, Shelly conquered a different foe, and the Philadelphia 76ers are rewarding him for his achievement.
During a break in the contest between the 76ers and Golden State Warriors at Wells Fargo Center, Shelly drained a layup, a foul shot, a three-pointer and, most impressively, a half-court bomb to win free Chick-fil-A biscuits for those in attendance.
As ESPN's Darren Rovell and HBSE communications vice president Dave Sholler explained, the best was yet to come for the sharpshooter:
The Sixers may want to remember Shelly the next time they need a buzzer-beater.
