The Rock vs. Roman Reigns and the Biggest Dream Matches Left for The Great One
The Rock is apparently dreaming of a WWE showdown a number of fans have on the brain: The Great One vs. Roman Reigns.
The Hollywood megastar doesn't compete between the ropes often these days. He's usually busy saving the world in the latest blockbuster. But he never seems to leave his roots behind.
Should he be pulled in by his love of pro wrestling again, Reigns would be an ideal foe.
The former WWE champ apparently agrees. At the latest Los Angeles Comic Con, the topic of potential opponents came up, and The Rock named Brock Lesnar and Triple H. Then he added one more.
"The other one would be a guy that actually just needs my foot in his ass, Roman Reigns," The Rock said, per Wrestling Inc's Doric Sam.
Samoan vs. Samoan. Past vs. Future. The Brahma Bull vs. The Big Dog. That's a matchup more than worthy of the marquee.
The Rock's suggestion of facing Triple H is a bit underwhelming. Those two have faced off so many times in the past it would be far from a fresh matchup this time around.
What other showdowns should be on WWE's wishlist for The Rock? A beast and a showstopper are must-adds.
The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
1 of 5
Lesnar vs. The Rock was a big match back in 2002. And if WWE booked it today, it would be simply massive.
Both men have elevated their names since that SummerSlam clash. The Rock went on to become the biggest name in Hollywood. Lesnar won the UFC Heavyweight Championship and has become a household name.
A rematch more than 15 years after their famous encounter is a no-brainer.
Lesnar is one of WWE's marquee attractions. And that goes double for The Rock.
There would be a strong nostalgia factor working here, as fans of both the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era would have a familiar face in the spotlight.
Throw in Paul Heyman's wizardry at hyping matches in the manager role, and you have something special here.
The Rock vs. AJ Styles
2 of 5
AJ Styles has quickly established himself as WWE's best in-ring performer. He has put on more great matches in the past year and a half than most guys have in their entire careers.
The Phenomenal One elevates his foes, and The Rock's ring rust would have him needing that skill.
Styles would give him a better bout than just about anyone. He's likely to make The Great One look like he's 15 years younger. And fans will know that going into this, helping the hype for it to grow.
Much like Styles vs. John Cena was a dream meeting of the men who once respectively ruled TNA and WWE, The Phenomenal One against The Rock would be an enticing collision of worlds.
The Rock vs. Shawn Michaels
3 of 5There's a reason many fans won't give in to the idea that Shawn Michaels is done competing. The Heartbreak Kid is one of the greatest showmen wrestling has ever seen.
Michaels flourished against the biggest names and in the biggest spots. Pitting Mr. WrestleMania against The Rock would be huge.
For the most part, these two men's careers didn't intersect. Michaels' back injury took him out of action during much of The Rock's rise. And when HBK made his comeback, The Rock was on his way to Hollywood.
Concocting a meeting between them now would create a match for the ages.
The Rock vs. Samoa Joe
4 of 5
Samoa Joe has the least star power on this list, but there's ample reason to book him against The Rock.
The Destroyer is a compelling force of nature. He's a top-flight mic worker and master heel. He's a megastar in the making.
The Rock thinks highly of him.
He once wrote on Instagram: "Samoa Joe reminds me of that rare legit tough MF throwback style of wrestler. Happy for him and his family. It's his time. He's earned it, and one day we'll be referring to him as WWE world champ."
A clash with The Rock would help facilitate a rise to that status.
And like Styles vs. The Rock, this would be a TNA vs. WWE showdown many fans would never have imagined possible in the past.
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns
5 of 5Reigns has knocked off John Cena and Undertaker. Seeing him try to add The Rock to his list of victims would have the WWE world abuzz.
The Big Dog is a polarizing figure, but he's made it clear the company is right to believe in him as the next big thing. He's a star. He's a lightning rod.
It makes perfect sense for him to be the one to face The Rock when he's next in a WWE ring.
Reigns recently told Neil Docking of the Mirror: "At the end of the day, I know it's a money match."
He couldn't be more right.
The juxtaposition between the hatred for Reigns and how beloved The Rock is would make this prospective contest magic. Their family ties would make for an easy-to-write story. And judging by what he's done against guys like Styles, Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins, The Shield's powerhouse would produce something memorable against The People's Champ.
