NFL Picks Week 9: Over/Under Vegas Lines, Expert Predictions and Odds

Richard JanvrinNov 2, 2017

With the trade deadline coming and going, we have several players in new places.

For example: Jay Ajayi went from the Miami Dolphins to the Philadelphia Eagles, Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots to the San Francisco 49ers, and Kelvin Benjamin from the Carolina Panthers to the Buffalo Bills.

These moves can shift the lines of teams slightly. For example the spread in Miami changed from the Oakland Raiders opening as 2.5-point favorites to a solid three.

A small amount, but those half points count.

Will any of the guys above have an impact?

Denver at Philadelphia (-8)

This is a dangerous game for the Philadelphia Eagles. By no means will the Denver Broncos come quietly.

Well, their offense might, but their defense will make enough noise to keep this one tight.

Looking at the spread with the Broncos getting eight, this could end up as a push.

With the addition of Ajayi, the Eagles added another element to their rushing attack, but the Broncos have been able to sniff that out all season.

However, their pass defense hasn't been what we've been accustomed to in years past, but their pass rush could still disrupt things for an Eagles offensive line that is without left tackle Jason Peters.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz struggled against the San Francisco 49ers. That could have been an anomaly, but the Broncos will present a much more difficult challenge defensively.

The Broncos offense hasn't been able to do much on offense with Trevor Siemian, so they've decided to go with Brock Osweiler, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

That should really move the needle for them. Whether it's Siemian, Osweiler, heck even Paxton Lynch, I'm not confident any one of these guys could move this offense.

If I had to pick, I'll give the Broncos the points. The Eagles are just a much better team.

Prediction: Eagles 17, Broncos 9

Los Angeles Rams (-4) at New York Giants

With the way the Rams are moving the ball and scoring, this has become a tough offense for any defense to stop.

Never mind a defense that will be without two cornerbacks for a quarter of Week 9 and also the entire game.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, cornerbacks Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins will be suspended for one quarter and indefinitely, respectively.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff has enough weapons at his disposal to toy with a now somewhat-porous Giants secondary.

Give me the Rams here by eight.

Prediction: Rams 24, Giants 16

Kansas City Chiefs at Dallas Cowboys (-1)

To be honest, this line somewhat confuses me.

It's understandable with Dallas being at home, but without running back Ezekiel Elliott and with their defense in the shape it's in, this is the Chiefs for the taking.

With that said, this could be a trap game.

The Chiefs secondary is far from unstoppable, but with tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Kareem Hunt, this is a tough offense to stop.

The Cowboys still have wide receiver Dez Bryant and quarterback Dak Prescott, but the loss of Zeke is going to be a big one.

Chiefs win in a nail-biter.

Prediction: Chiefs 31, Cowboys 29
