Major League Revisited: Tribe Bomb the Bombers
Somewhere in America, Wesley Snipes, Tom Berenger, and Charlie Sheen are smiling and having a beer together.
That's because they saw their classic baseball movie brought to life.
On Monday night, a brisk cool evening in the Bronx, the Cleveland Indians left another city in tears. The Yankees fans joined the Cubbies at the other end of the bar as their beloved Bronx Bombers fell to the Tribe 6-4 in last night's game four of the ALDS.
The Tribe rejoiced in the thrill of a victory that sent them on a collision course with a different kind of Sox team. Cleveland won the series 3-1 and became the final piece of the LCS puzzle.
This Friday the Indians will continue their drive to the World Series as they face the Boston Red Sox. More on the baseball later, but first....
Dick Pulls a Shanahan...and Still Loses
Tony Romo committed six turnovers...on his own!
The Bills led by eight with under a minute left in the game, but Romo kept coming. One touchdown pass and an onside kick later, the Bills' smiles began to fade.
Down by two, the Cowboys marched down field, and set Nick Folk up with a 53-yard field goal.
This is where it got interesting.
With just two seconds left on the clock, Folk set up for quite arguably the biggest clutch kick of his life.
Did I forget to mention that Buffalo had two timeouts left?
Folk sent the kick flying. It went through the uprights and the game was over.
Wait a minute!! There's a timeout on the field! Dick Jauron pulled a call out of Mike Shanahan's playbook. How ironic that it worked the first two or three times this season.
Unfortunately, Urban Meyer pulled it...and lost to Auburn. So it was Jauron's turn.
Folk set up again and kicked it even harder. It was up...and it was good...again!! No timeouts called this time. Game over! Cowboys pull a comeback for the ages and win!
Yes, you're reading this correctly. The Cowboys are 5-0 despite Romo's TOs.
Just wasn't a good night to be a New York fan. WOW!
Randy Orton Gets a "Heartbreak" Wakeup Call
When Randy Orton won the WWE Championship at No Mercy against Triple H, his ego grew too large for the fans of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
After luring the Game into an obvious trap in a handicap match against himself and Umaga, the King of Kings was left destroyed and jacked up.
Vince McMahon wasn't done with him, though. He made it clear that Triple H would not only come out to shake Orton's hand and wish him luck at the end of the night, but he would be the first.
So when the end of the night arrived, all the Raw Superstars were out there...except for Triple H.
McMahon demanded his appearance and threatened to send Orton back to drag him out.
Still no Game.
So Orton handed the Chairman the title, took off his jacket, and started to walk towards the back. That's when a familiar theme came alive and a familiar face walked out from.
After being sidelined for a majority of the year, The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels, made his return to Raw and the WWE. Orton started to back towards the ring and Michaels wasted no time in approaching him. Orton jumped back into the ring and grabbed his championship.
Michaels speared the Legend Killer to the ground and dropped a barrage of punches onto the WWE Champion. Orton had no time to shake off the punches as he turned around to meet another old friend of his: Sweet Chin Music.
The "Champ" got laid out and Vince was left wondering what just happened.
As for Michaels, he celebrated his return with a few DX symbols towards Orton and McMahon. A fitting ending to a wild night.
All that in one evening? I feel a hangover coming on. See ya this weekend knuckleheads.
