NBA Fantasy Update: Kevin Love Out For 6-8 Weeks
You've heard the expression "No love lost." Well, it's happening for real.
This is no way to start the NBA season, and for fantasy owners who were banking (no pun intended) on Kevin Love helping them in the first month of the season, this is a huge blow.
Tell that to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Love sustained an injury to his left hand on Friday night, and further inspection of the hand revealed a break in a bone. The initial diagnosis leaves Love with a 6-8 week return timetable, and if surgery comes into the equation, he could be out even longer.
Love was solid as a rookie last year, and despite playing the same position as Minnesota's other big star, Al Jefferson, he was expected to be a big part of the youth movement the Timberwolves are enforcing.
Minnesota had drafted Johnny Flynn, signed Ramon Sessions, and traded away Mike Miller in an attempt to bring in the best young talent they could get and allow their corps to grow as a team.
However, they will have to start the process without Love, who should miss the first month of the season, and could miss action well into January.
If you drafted Love, you can try to trade him for some lesser players (possibly sleepers), or you may have to cut your losses. Keep an eye on if the injury requires surgery, and go from there.
As for the lucky folks who have yet to draft, stay clear of Love until the late rounds, as he's not worth taking a chance right now until the final few rounds.
