Springer was nagged by several injuries last year, including a quad ailment that landed him on the 10-day disabled list.
However, none of those bumps and bruises proved particularly serious as he slashed .283/.367/.522, with career highs of 34 home runs and 85 RBI en route to his first career All-Star berth.
This year, Springer is slashing .296/.363/.869 with eight home runs and 26 RBI for the defending World Series champions.
If he's sidelined, the Astros will likely pivot to second-year contributor Derek Fisher, who is batting .190 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 63 at-bats. Jake Marisnick (.148 average with three home runs) is also an option.
