Clayton Kershaw Placed on Dodgers 10-Day DL with Biceps Injury

Rob GoldbergMay 6, 2018

The Los Angeles Dodgers will temporarily have to survive without their star pitcher after Clayton Kershaw was forced to the 10-day disabled list with left biceps tendonitis.

Kershaw entered the day with a 1-4 record, 2.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in seven starts.

When healthy, the 30-year-old is arguably the top pitcher in baseball. He finished last season with an 18-4 record and 2.31 ERA while helping the Dodgers finish with the best record in the majors and reach the World Series.

It was the fifth time in seven seasons he led the league in ERA, continuing a dominant stretch that includes a 118-41 record, 2.10 ERA, three Cy Young awards and one MVP. He has finished in the top five of Cy Young voting in each season of this stretch.

Back injuries have limited him in the last two years, and he has missed more than 20 regular-season starts over the past four seasons. It appears another issue could now keep him off the field.

While the Dodgers—currently fourth in the NL West—have a deep rotation, there is a significant drop-off between Kershaw and everyone else on the staff. A significant injury could hurt the team's chances of contending for a playoff spot this season.
