Other Battleground Thoughts

This year's Battleground PPV has a nice mix of different kinds of matches. Each division is represented well, with an even distribution between midcard and top level feuds.

Cena and Rusev seem to be rehashing the same storyline they had a few years ago, but if any two athletes can make a Flag match the most physical encounter on the card, it's the Bulgarian Brute and the Leader of the Cenation.

Kanellis didn't have the greatest debut on the last episode of SmackDown, but he and Zayn will have another chance to impress the world on Sunday. Both men are gifted wrestlers, and with enough time, they could easily steal the show from the higher profile matches.

Naomi is going yet another PPV without defending the Women's Championship, but with Carmella lurking in the background with her Money in the Bank contract, you never know when a title match will take place.

The return of the Punjabi Prison has received mixed reactions on social media. Some fans think it's a great idea because it fits Mahal's character, but others have bad memories of the two previous matches inside the wooden cage.

The Maharaja has continued to establish himself as one of the top heels on SmackDown, and a third victory over Orton would go a long way toward making him look worthy of his spot in the eyes of his critics.

The show has a lot of potential, but the bout most likely to outshine the rest is Owens vs. Styles. Having former world champions pursue a midcard title so ferociously gives it the prestige it has lacked in years past.

The great thing about WWE PPVs is their ability to surprise us. Even if you don't like the card as it stands, the event might end up being one of the best of the year.
