Bayley Beats Sasha Banks, Will Face Alexa Bliss at WWE SummerSlam 2017

Bayley defeated Sasha Banks on Monday's episode of Raw to earn a Raw Women's Championship match against Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam.

Banks hit Bayley with a Frog Splash off the top rope, but Bayley reversed into a pin to land the win. WWE Universe shared an image of Bayley after the win:

Raw general manager Kurt Angle set up the No. 1 contender's match last week due to the success both Sasha and Bayley have experienced against Alexa as of late.

In their title match at Great Balls of Fire, The Boss pushed Bliss to the limit only for the champion to intentionally get herself counted out in order to keep the belt in her possession.

Over the past couple of weeks, however, Bayley has pinned Bliss in both tag team and singles competition, putting herself in the title conversation.

Sasha and Bayley are close friends, but they have a long history of being rivals as well dating back to their time together in NXT.

They took part in what is arguably the greatest women's match ever to occur under the WWE umbrella at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn two years ago when Bayley defeated Banks to become NXT Women's champion for the first time.

That match was nearly impossible to top, but the Superstars gave it a run in a rematch that saw Bayley retain over Sasha in the first women's Iron Man match in WWE history.

Since Banks has been a face during Bayley's tenure on the main roster, they have largely been buddies content with helping each other out rather than stepping over each other.

That narrative has changed briefly at times, including when they were both involved in a Fatal 4-Way for the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania.

They were once again at odds Monday with a massive opportunity hanging in the balance to compete for the title at one of WWE's biggest events.

Perhaps even more important than wrestling at SummerSlam is the fact that it's happening in Brooklyn, New York, which is where both Sasha and Bayley left an indelible mark on the business.

Bliss has taken a different path than Banks and Bayley, as she didn't wrestle independently and didn't have a ton of success in NXT.

She is the first Superstar to win both the SmackDown and Raw Women's Championships, though, and she has quickly developed into a top-flight heel.

Either Sasha or Bayley would have provided Alexa with a formidable foe, but Bayley has some unfinished business with Bliss and may finally be ready to find the aggression she needs to beat her.
