Aiden English ended his losing streak against Tye Dillinger on Sunday night, as he defeated his rival at Battleground

WWE provided English's emotional response to winning:

Vaughn Johnson of Philly.com spoke for a lot of the WWE Universe in his reaction to English's triumph:

Meanwhile, this was a bad loss for Dillinger, as Raj Giri of WrestlingINC.com noted:

The bout marked the second pay-per-view match between the Superstars, as they previously met on the Backlash Kickoff show with The Perfect 10 coming away victorious.

English was also among Dillinger's first opponents on SmackDown Live following his elevation to the main roster on the heels of WrestleMania.

WWE's Drama King also experienced a big change after WrestleMania, as Simon Gotch was released, which meant the end of The Vaudevillains and allowed English to embark on a singles career.

He has been used primarily as enhancement talent and as something of a comedic act, but his television time has increased since Gotch was terminated.

Despite a lack of success in terms of wins and losses, English was confident entering Battleground, as seen in this video courtesy of WWE's official Twitter account:

What English didn't account for is that he was going up against a Superstar who had built up some momentum in the weeks leading up to Battleground.

Although he fell just short of some big wins, Dillinger was among the final competitors remaining in a Battle Royal to determine a No. 1 contender for the United States Championship.

He also faced WWE champion Jinder Mahal in a non-title match, putting on an impressive performance before falling victim to the Modern Day Maharaja.

Both Dillinger and English are trying to carve out their niche on SmackDown Live, and Sunday's match represented an opportunity for one of them to move in a positive direction.

While there is no clear path to a top spot on the card currently, English's win suggests WWE's decision-makers may see some potential in him as a big-time heel.
