WWE Rumors: Examining Latest Buzz Around Samoa Joe, Alexa Bliss and More

Erik BeastonJul 11, 2017

The Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view not only provided fans with several wildly entertaining moments, it also sparked rumors across the internet.

Featuring some of the most noteworthy stars from Sunday's extravaganza, the rumors shed a light on what fans can expect in the wake of the event.

What will come of Samoa Joe's phenomenal main event performance in his Universal Championship match with Brock Lesnar? Will the rivalry between women's champion Alexa Bliss and No. 1 contender Sasha Banks continue into SummerSlam?

The answers to those two questions, as well as the whereabouts of a long-running tag team specialist, can be found in this rundown of WWE rumors.

Brock Lesnar Impressed by Samoa Joe

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, universal champion Brock Lesnar was pleased with Samoa Joe following their physical war Sunday night.

"A source backstage revealed that following the match, Lesnar was extremely happy with the match and Samoa Joe in particular. Lesnar was said to be particularly thrilled that Joe was able to keep up with his physical style and was able to give it back," Sapp writes.

The validity of the report was seemingly supported Monday night when Joe interrupted a promo involving Lesnar and perceived No. 1 contender Roman Reigns, leading to the announcement by general manager Kurt Angle that Joe and Reigns will do battle for the right to challenge The Beast Incarnate for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

The physicality demonstrated by Joe and Lesnar contributed to the success of their pay-per-view clash, so it is refreshing to find out one of the Superstars involved was pleased with his opponent's willingness to return to the hard-hitting style he prefers.

While a pessimistic fanbase that has been here and done this before will wait with baited breath for Reigns to obliterate Joe's momentum by beating him and moving on to SummerSlam, it will be interesting to see how WWE approaches Joe's booking on the July 17 episode of Raw.

Does it protect him? Does the unthinkable happen, The Destroyer defeating The Big Dog and cashing his ticket to SummerSlam and a rematch with The Beast?

Only time will tell, but odds are the seal of approval from Lesnar, coupled with tremendous performances over the last month, has won Joe favor with management.

Real-Life Heat Fueling On-Screen Feud?

According to Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats, the continuation of the Sasha Banks-Alexa Bliss rivalry can be attributed to the heat that exists between the two.

"The finish of Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss’ match at Great Balls of Fire was changed at the last minute because WWE wants to use the reports the two women dislike each other in real life to extend their feud," Ortman notes.

Fans who tuned into Raw Talk after the event witnessed an at times uncomfortable testimonial by Banks in regards to the dislike that exists between her and Bliss. Banks recalled the women's champion not being able to tell the difference between The Hardy Boyz and called her out for a perceived lack of respect for the business.

The best rivalries in wrestling history are the ones steeped in reality. Whether it is professional desire to be the best or real disdain off-camera between two larger-than-life performers, those programs always strike a nerve with audiences others simply do not.

The match Sunday night was physical, more so than one would have expected heading into the show. A series of rematches and the continued escalation of their on-screen rivalry could restore some prestige and excitement to a Raw women's division that has clearly fallen off since the departure of Charlotte in April.

Primo To Miss Time With A Knee Injury

According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Primo will be sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury that will require surgery.

The second-generation star had been acquiring momentum in recent weeks, teaming with Epico to score wins over American Alpha and appearing in high-profile tag bouts with The New Day, Breezango and The Usos.

After a Raw stint that saw the team saddled with the unenviable gimmick of Puerto Rican timeshare salesmen, they had been treated with respect as a premier team Tuesday night. Now, they find themselves in a state of limbo, Epico forced to go it alone for the time being as Primo heals up and works toward returning to the squared circle.

One of the more reliable and consistent members of the WWE roster, the younger brother of former WWE intercontinental and tag team champion Carlito Caribbean Cool has been a valuable member of the company's undercard. Hopefully, his return to the squared circle will generate a renewed push and opportunity for the Colons, who were finally garnering attention as members of the SmackDown Live roster.
