Kyle Schwarber Reportedly to Be Recalled by Cubs After Stint in Triple-A

Two weeks after getting sent down to Triple-A Iowa to work on his swing, the Chicago Cubs will reportedly recall outfielder/catcher Kyle Schwarber on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Schwarber had been hitting .171 with 12 homers and 28 RBI for the Cubbies, but in the minors he hit .343 with four home runs and nine RBI in 11 games.

The 24-year-old Schwarber was expected to be a key part of Chicago's lineup in 2017 after making a triumphant return in last season's World Series.

Schwarber missed nearly the entire 2016 regular season due to a torn ACL and LCL, but he appeared in five World Series games against the Cleveland Indians, hitting .412 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The 2014 first-round draft pick entered 2017 with a starting job in the outfield, but he and the 42-42 Cubs have struggled (3.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central).

Chicago is 28th in team batting average and 17th in runs, but a hot-hitting Schwarber would provide a much-needed boost at a crucial time.
