The Miz vs. Dean Ambrose for IC Title Announced for WWE Great Balls of Fire 2017

WWE announced The Miz will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dean Ambrose at Great Balls of Fire on Sunday.

The Miz successfully defended the belt Monday night on Raw against Heath Slater in an impromptu singles match.

Regardless of who wins Sunday, Great Balls of Fire will likely be the end of Miz and Ambrose's feud, which dates back to their time on SmackDown Live.

Both stars would benefit from going in different directions.

It wasn't that long ago that The Miz was one of the consistently best parts of WWE weekly programming, whether it was him dueling with Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack or going toe-to-toe with John Cena in the weeks leading to WrestleMania 33.

Since then, The Miz's momentum has somewhat stalled.

Ambrose, meanwhile, was only a few weeks into his WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign this time last year after he won the title at Money in the Bank.

The Lunatic Fringe can't be a world champion forever, but changing his character dynamic or feuding with somebody else other than The Miz could help get his singles career back on track.
