JJ Redick Rumors: 76ers, Timberwolves, Nets Interested in SG

Alec NathanJun 30, 2017

Free-agent shooting guard JJ Redick reportedly won't return to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Appearing on SportsCenter on Saturday morning (h/t NBC Sports' Michael Gallagher), ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said Redick is bound for a new home and is expected to have three serious suitors.

According to PhillyVoice's Rich Hofmann, Wojnarowski listed the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves as the most interested parties. He added that the Sixers would ideally like to sign Redick to a one-year deal worth at least $20 million.

Redick's first meeting after free agency opened Saturday at 12:01 a.m. ET was with Sixers brass, per Wojnarowski

The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor first reported the Sixers and Nets intended to make a "hard push" for Redick, and it's not hard to see why.

Both young teams have a need for veteran leadership, and his sharpshooting prowess could help elevate their offensive offerings, even if it's just for a year or two.

But as ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk noted, Philadelphia may be a more appealing landing spot than Brooklyn because it has already amassed plenty of young talent in the form of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz:

The Timberwolves, meanwhile, could use Redick as an ideal sharpshooting complement to Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler since he thrives in an off-ball role, running off screens and pindowns.

Wherever he lands, Redick should immediately slide into a role as his team's most efficient long-range marksman.

Last season, Redick averaged 15.0 points and drilled 42.9 percent of his threes on a career-high six long-range attempts per game.
