Zach Orr Reportedly Meeting with Colts, Jets, Talking with Lions

Mike ChiariJun 30, 2017

Free-agent linebacker Zach Orr told Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday that he is set to meet with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets, and expects to talk with the Detroit Lions as well.

The visit with the Colts will take place Friday, just days after Orr said on NFL Network that he was considering coming out of retirement after stepping away from the game in January due to a congenital spinal condition.

Orr said on NFL Network's Good Morning Football that he has sought additional opinions since his retirement, and the feedback has been positive:

"I had my mind made up. I was like man, the doctors told me I was done. This is a serious issue. So I'm going to leave it alone. But I just kept hearing that from multiple people and some were telling me to just go check out and seek out some more opinions and things like that and come to find out my condition, it is rare —.01 percent of the people have what I have—but there's no actual evidence or facts that I'm at a higher risk than any other player. And it's actually been documented that a college player who had the exact same thing that I have that returned to play with no problems."

After spending the first two seasons of his career as a reserve with the Baltimore Ravens, Orr broke out in 2016 with 130 tackles and three interceptions.

The 25-year-old developed into one of the NFL's top linebackers seemingly out of nowhere, but a return to Baltimore may not be in the cards.

Orr's agent, Rob Sheets, said recently on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore (h/t ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley) that there is internal debate within the organization about bringing Orr back.

While Orr was set to be a restricted free agent, his retirement allowed him to return as an unrestricted free agent.
