Defending champion Andy Murray could face Stan Wawrinka in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this year ahead of a potential semi-final clash with Rafael Nadal, while Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are on the other side of the draw.

Angelique Kerber could have a tough time this year after drawing 2015 finalist Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round, ahead of a potential clash with Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarter-finals.

The tournament's official Twitter account shared the projected men's quarter-finals:

Murray has a mixed route to the final, per The Times' Stuart Fraser:

He could face Dustin Brown in Round 2the same stage Brown knocked Nadal out in two years agowhile likely third-round clash Fabio Fognini has an even 3-3 head-to-head record against the Scot.

World No. 15 Lucas Pouille or the mercurial Nick Kyrgios may await in Round 4 before three extremely difficult tests.

Wawrinka knocked Murray out of this year's French Open, while Nadal won the tournament for the 10th time by beating the Swiss star in the final.

His rivals might also face some tricky contests along the way, though, with Federer opening against Alexandr Dolgopolov and Marin Cilic doing the same against PhilippKohlschreiber.

Meanwhile, Nadal and Djokovic will need to avoid potential banana skins in Round 3, as they're lined up to face Karen Khachanov and Juan Martin del Potro, respectively.

Wimbledon also shared the women's projected quarter-final clashes:

With reigning champion Serena Williams absent because of her pregnancy, 2016 runner-up and world No. 1 Kerber has taken her place in the draw, but the German does not have the ideal platform to bounce back from her shock first-round exit at Roland Garros.

Sports journalist Reem Abulleil shared her potential route to the final:

Likely third-round opponent Lucie Safarova has won two of their three past meetings, while Muguruza has won their last four matches together. Kuznetsova also has an edge in their head-to-head, and 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska will be a tricky opponent for anyone.

There are plenty of exciting opening clashes in the women's draw, too:

Sixth seed and local favourite Johanna Konta will get the chance to avenge her first-round exit in Paris at the hands of Su-Wei Hsieh, as she faces her once again in the opening round.

The draw has thrown up plenty of thrilling ties for both the men and the women this year, so the next fortnight promises to be yet another memorable edition of the sport's most prestigious Grand Slam.
