Los Angeles Dodgers Break Franchise Record for Homers in a Month

Bleacher Report MilestonesJun 30, 2017

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Joc Pederson smacked his eighth home run of the season in the sixth inning of Thursday's 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

In addition to extending the club's lead in the contest by another three runs, the jack also pushed the Dodgers to 50 home runs in June. That total surpasses the previous franchise mark for the most homers in a calendar month in franchise history, per Sportsnet Stats.

The previous record of 49 was reached twice in back-to-back months by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953. The team combined to reach the total in both July and August of that season. It also ranks among the top 50 power months in MLB history, and there is still one game remaining in June to add to it.

Surprisingly, the New York Mets actually equaled the Dodgers' power surge this month. It marks the first time in MLB history that two NL teams have homered 50 times in the same month, per ESPN Stats & Info. Star prospect Cody Bellinger has led the way by a massive margin for the Dodgers, collecting 13 home runs to more than double his closest competition, Yasiel Puig, on the club during June. The Mets have spread the wealth in the category, with Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson both hitting eight bombs each to top the category.

The Dodgers open up their series against the San Diego Padres on Friday evening attempting to extend the franchise record and move up the all-time list.
