Blake Griffin Rumors: Free Agent to Meet with Phoenix Suns on Saturday
The Los Angeles Clippers will have competition in their quest to re-sign Blake Griffin, with the Phoenix Suns set to meet with the free-agent forward.
Per Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Griffin's meeting with the Suns will take place Saturday. Turner added that Phoenix can offer the five-time All-Star a max contract of four years and $130 million.
Griffin became the Clippers' top priority in free agency after they traded Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported the Clippers were "focused" on retaining Griffin after the Paul deal.
The Suns, who finished 24-58 last season and haven't made the playoffs since 2010, ranked 22nd in offensive efficiency and 28th in defensive efficiency in 2016-17, per Basketball-Reference.com.
Phoenix has intriguing young talent, including Devin Booker and TJ Warren, to build around. Griffin would bring a star presence and playoff experience with him to a franchise in desperate need of a cornerstone player to speed up the rebuilding process.
