Tottenham Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Vincent Janssen and Matthias Ginter

Rob BlanchetteJun 25, 2017

Vincent Janssen could be about to exit Tottenham Hotspur after interest from Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to Neil Moxley of the Mirror, the Bundesliga side could offer the striker a way out of Spurs after a difficult season in the Premier League. The 22-year-old signed from AZ Alkmaar last term but failed to make an impact, constantly in the shadow of Harry Kane.

Speaking to De Telegraaf (h/t George Boulton of The Sun), Janssen explained the difficulties he has faced in north London:

"I initially found it difficult with my role as a substitute, sometimes sitting in the stands at Spurs, but I learned to deal with it. As a young player I had to compete with Harry Kane – the top scorer of the Premier League – arguably the toughest league in the world, and a striker who is performing remains in the team. That [my future] is a matter for after the holidays. I want the prospect of more playing time, but otherwise I'm now better keeping my mouth shut. I cannot say anything about that [a return to the Eredivisie] either. I keep all options open."

Janssen shone in the Eredivisie as he proved himself to be a burgeoning talent in the Netherlands, but his potency has been lacking in England.

The No. 9 scored just twice in the Premier League in 27 appearances last season, according to WhoScored.com.

Despite his young age, it appears Janssen does not have the skill set to compete with Kane and he will continue to struggle while not receiving minutes.

In other Spurs news, the club could target Matthias Ginter of Borussia Dortmund as they strengthen during the summer.

According to German newspaper Bild (h/t The Mirror), Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to part with £15 million for the versatile defender, who can also feature in midfield.

Any potential sale would be complicated as BVB wish to retain the 23-year-old, per Bild.

Spurs will need to assess their squad in the coming weeks and identify both their strengths and weaknesses on their playing staff.

When Kane was missing through injury last season, Janssen was not a danger, either coming off the bench or starting.

Spurs desperately need to find an alternative to their England striker, allowing him periods of rest and recuperation.

If Pochettino can strike this balance, there is every chance last season's runner-ups can take the next step and become English champions.
