Michael Chandler Falls After Official Pulls Stool Away at Bellator 180
Michael Chandler lost his lightweight championship at Saturday night's Bellator 180 in New York City. He attempted to compete through an ankle injury, but the referee stopped the bout, and Brent Primus was awarded a TKO victory.
The freak injury was a bitter way for the 31-year-old to lose his title.
Per MMA Fighting's Shaheen Al-Shatti, Chandler lobbied to keep fighting despite struggling to put weight on his injured leg.
After the fight, he stood from his stool to pump up the crowd. His rough evening ended cruelly when he tried to sit back down, not realizing a commission inspector had removed the stool.
Chandler hadn't lost a fight since Will Brooks defeated him for the second straight time in 2014. Primus may have won on fluky terms, but he improved to 8-0.
