Gianluigi Donnarumma, Mino Raiola to Talk New Milan Contract After 'Hack'

Matt JonesJun 25, 2017

AC Milan and Gianluigi Donnarumma will hold talks over a new contract following the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, according to the player's agent, Mino Raiola.

As reported by ESPN, there was confusion on social media on Sunday, with Italian sources suggesting the 18-year-old was set to sack Raiola following his decision not to agree fresh terms with the Rossoneri.

However, those claims were dismissed by the player with a bulletin that read "#Donnarumma #Raiola Yesterday, today and tomorrow!"

Soon after, Donnarumma appeared to pledge his loyalty to Milan on Instagram, but his account was quickly deactivated and the player tweeted to say he had been hacked.

Raiola then stated Donnarumma and Milan will discuss a new deal in the coming weeks. "Tweets' between me and Gigi are tweets of friendship," the agent said. "After Euros we'll meet Milan. Now Nazionale is important."

Raiola also posted the following, seemingly hitting out at those suggesting the agent and the player were set to go their separate ways:

The hastily deleted post on Donnarumma's Instagram page said:

"Today my tweet sparked a real uproar, which I did not wish to create, so for that I apologise. I wish to reiterate my absolute love for Milan and its fans. Now all that's in my mind is the national team, with whom I hope to give a gift to all the supporters. My promise is that, as soon as the [U21] Euros are finished, I will meet the club along with my family and my agent to discuss my renewal."

BT Sport's James Horncastle commented on what is quickly becoming the biggest saga of the summer:

Donnarumma recently advised the San Siro club he would not be renewing his contract, prompting a flurry of transfer speculation. Per ESPN, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked with moves for the 18-year-old sensation.

The episode is an undesirable one for the player, who has enjoyed a rapid rise. Thrust into the Milan first team as a 16-year-old, he has showcased incredible maturity and talent to cement his place in the XI, and he's now rated among the best goalkeepers in European football.

Given he was developed in the Milan academy, it was anticipated Donnarumma would go on to enjoy a prosperous future at the San Siro. But recent developments have cast doubt over that romantic notion.

The Scouted Football Twitter account suggested Raiola has a lot to answer for in that sense:

As noted by ESPN, Donnarumma has been subject to criticism from supporters, with dollar notes tossed his way during recent matches. And while he's clearly a strong character, the saga must be tough for such a young man to go through.

Milan fans can comfort themselves in the knowledge the channels of dialogue seem to be open between the club, player and agent again. Plenty tied to the Rossoneri will be far from pleased with how this has played out, though.
