LaVar Ball Booed as He Leaves 2017 NBA Draft, Throws Big Baller Hat into Crowd
LaVar Ball was all smiles Thursday when the Los Angeles Lakers selected his son, Lonzo Ball, with the second pick in the NBA draft. That didn't change as he left Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, to a chorus of jeers.
According to the Associated Press' Brian Mahoney, there were loud boos for LaVar, who egged on the fans in attendance before he tossed his Big Baller Brand hat into the crowd.
The Ringer's Rodger Sherman captured video of the moment:
B/R's Joon Lee provided an up-close look at the lucky fans who snagged LaVar's lid:
Playing to the crowd was hardly LaVar's only noteworthy moment of the night, though.
Shortly before the Lakers made their selection official, LaVar told ESPN's Jeff Goodman he heard from two unlikely sources that the Purple and Gold would bring Lonzo aboard.
"I told you," he said, according to For the Win's Alysha Tsuji. "From the words of Zeus, Jesus, everybody said he gonna be a Laker."
Now that LaVar's prophecy has become reality, the Lakers will put the keys to their offense in Lonzo's hands and hope he can develop into an All-Star-caliber floor general who can vault them back to the postseason.
