Jets LB Lorenzo Mauldin Arrested for Misdemeanor Assault
New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin was arrested on misdemeanor assault charges after allegedly attacking a man at a New York nightclub in April.
New York police spokesperson Arlene Muniz confirmed Mauldin turned himself in Wednesday after charges were filed, per Kevin Spain and A.J. Perez of USA Today.
Mauldin has denied he was the person who punched the plaintiff. Jean Lopez, who filed the complaint, said Mauldin punched him after spilling champagne inside the club.

“Another individual struck the plaintiff, and that will be borne out by the witnesses and other parties involved," Mauldin's attorney, Mitchell Schuster, told Larry Celona, Paul Schwartz and Bruce Golding of the New York Post. "We have a very strong case and I look forward to pursuing it. Lorenzo’s anxious to being exonerated. He was not involved.”
Lopez's attorney told the Post that his client suffered multiple facial fractures and “he had surgery, he still has numbness on the affected side in his mouth area and traveling up to his ear. It’s a bad injury.”
Mauldin, 24, recorded 16 sacks in 11 games played last season. He has been limited to mostly special teams work and bit player parts on defense since being taken in the third round in 2015.
