Hip-hop icon Prodigy, who was one-half of the duo Mobb Deep, died on Tuesday.

As Billboard's Adelle Platon explained, various members of the sports world have spent time honoring the 42-year-old since news of his death went public.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to honor Prodigy. "Mobb Deep vibe all night long!! #RIPProdigy," James added to his story as he shared a few of his favorite jams.

Per journalist Andrew Ramos, the New York Yankees also played some Mobb Deep ahead of the club's home game versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday evening:

Free-agent NBA forward Metta World Peace referred to Prodigy as "family" while speaking about the rapper's death to TMZ Sports on Tuesday.

"We did shows together," Metta explained. He also referred to the artist as "Prodigy the God."
