Bayern Munich Transfer News: Romelu Lukaku Links Amid Robert Lewandowski Rumours

Rory MarsdenJun 21, 2017

Bayern Munich are reportedly in contact with Romelu Lukaku's agent, Mino Raiola, over a potential move for the Everton forward as uncertainty remains over the future of Robert Lewandowski.

According to David Maddock in the Mirror, Chelsea remain favourites to snap up the 24-year-old striker, but Bayern are still in the frame to sign the £90 million-rated Belgium international as no deal has been struck between Everton and the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Reports have recently emerged linking Bayern's current star No. 9 Lewandowski with Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United, per Sky Sports' Guillem Balague:

The Bundesliga champions have denied the links, though:

However, per Maddock, they could still be in need of a new striker this summer, and Lukaku is a potential target.

Lewandowski, 28, was stunningly prolific for both Bayern and Poland last season, per BT Sport Football:

Lukaku also enjoyed a fine season in the Premier League, netting 25 goals and providing six assists in 37 appearances, per WhoScored.com.

It was his best-ever tally for a season in the English top flight, and he continues to improve having already been a Premier League stalwart for five seasons.

Should Bayern lose Lewandowski, they could do a lot worse than signing the former Chelsea man as a replacement. He would add significant physicality to their front line, which could prove effective in the Bundesliga.

In the likely scenario that Lewandowski remains at the Allianz Arena, however, there is no pressing need for manager Carlo Ancelotti to add any further strikers to his squad, especially not one who could cost up to £90 million.

But it would be little surprise if Bayern are indeed keeping their options open on Lukaku in case Lewandowski agitates for a move away from the club.
