Lawrence Taylor Pleads Guilty to DUI Charge Stemming from September Arrest

Scott PolacekJun 19, 2017

Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor reportedly pleaded guilty Monday to DUI with injury or property damage, per Julius Whigham II of the Palm Beach Post

Whigham cited Palm Beach County court records and noted the charge is from a September crash. The former New York Giants pass-rusher was placed on probation for a year and had his driver's license suspended for nine months as a result.

Taylor also must perform community service, pay $1,500 in court costs and install an ignition interlock device on his car.

According to Whigham, investigators said Taylor blew a .082 and .084 on Breathalyzer tests, surpassing the legal limit for intoxication of .08 after he allegedly crashed into two vehicles. One of the vehicles was a trooper's patrol car.

Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk noted Taylor dealt with substance abuse problems during his NFL career, some of which have carried over into retirement.

On the field, Taylor was a dominant force in his 13 seasons with the Giants. He was a 10-time Pro Bowler, the 1986 MVP and a two-time Super Bowl champion.
