Alvaro Morata Should Be Sold to Manchester United, Says Ramon Calderon

Christopher SimpsonJun 17, 2017

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes the Spanish giants should allow Alvaro Morata to join Manchester United this summer.

He told The Sun's Nick Rostron-Pike: "Alvaro Morata is not happy at Real Madrid. He hasn't played, and it's the kind of deal and agreement which is great for all sides. The player, Manchester United and Real Madrid. All parties will be very happy with the deal."

Morata rejoined Real from Juventus last summer, but despite notching 20 goals upon his return, he was restricted to the role of back-up, with manager Zinedine Zidane routinely preferring Karim Benzema.

The 24-year-old made 43 appearances but started just 19 matches in all competitions. He also contributed six assists.

Football writer Liam Canning believes the ideal transfer window for United would see them snap up the Spaniard and another top centre-forward target:

United are crying out for more firepower, having mustered just 54 goals in the Premier League last season and being held to 15 draws.

Their need is even more pressing after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure, with the 35-year-old having netted 17 of those goals.

Morata would be an excellent candidate to improve the Red Devils forward line, and his situation at the Santiago Bernabeu makes him a realistic capture—more attainable than he perhaps should be given his impressive form.

Per Sky Sports News HQ's Kaveh Solhekol, United have offered him a lucrative contract:

With United able to offer him a starring role at Old Trafford and seemingly prepared to put him more or less on par with Paul Pogba's wages from next season, as reported by Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football (h/t Goal.com) it seems likely they'll be able to agree terms with Morata, if they haven't already.
