Jarrius Robertson to Receive Jimmy V Award at 2017 ESPYs

Adam WellsJun 14, 2017

Jarrius Robertson, the 15-year-old New Orleans Saints fan who became a sensation during this year's NBA All-Star Weekend, will be honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the 2017 ESPYs in Los Angeles.

Good Morning America announced Wednesday that he would be bestowed with the honor during the awards telecast July 12. Robertson released a statement about being named the 2017 Jimmy V Perseverance Award winner, via ESPN.com:

"When I first heard the news I thought I was dreaming! The ESPYs? For real? The past two years have been a blessing in so many ways for me and my family. I have been able to do things I never thought I would be able to do. But to be included with Craig Sager, Stuart Scott, Leah and Devon Still, Eric LeGrand and the man himself, Jimmy V, is truly amazing, and I am really grateful and humbled."

With this year's NBA All-Star festivities taking place in New Orleans, Robertson made his presence felt during the celebrity game.

Last October, Robertson was given a contract by the Saints to serve as their hype man prior to a game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 15-year-old has had to undergo two liver transplants and 13 surgeries in his young life due to a chronic disease called biliary atresia that has affected his physical growth.
