Tottenham Transfer News: Ricardo Pereira Reportedly Eyed Amid Kyle Walker Talk

Gill ClarkJun 14, 2017

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Porto full-back Ricardo Pereira to replace Kyle Walker, who is expected to leave White Hart Lane for Manchester City this summer.

Matt Law of the Telegraph reported that Pep Guardiola's side will continue their summer spending by signing Walker for £40 million.

Maurico Pochettino appears resigned to the full-back's exit and has reportedly already begun scouting for replacements with Pereira at the top of his shopping list and expected to cost £20 million.

However, Spurs are not alone in being admirers of the Portuguese defender and face competition from Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

Pereira has been on loan with Nice for the last two seasons, where he has shown he has all the attributes needed to succeed at the top level, according to football statistician Ted Knutson:

The 23-year-old made 30 appearances for Nice in Ligue 1 last season, scoring twice and contributing four assists, per WhoScored.com, as his side finished in an impressive third place.

One of his standout displays came against PSG in April, a game in which Nice won 3-1, with Pereira scoring, assisting and picking up WhoScored.com's man of the match:

Pereira is a versatile player, predominantly a right-back but able to play on either flank and also further forward as a more attacking right-winger.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are expected to begin talks with Walker this week, per Lyall Thomas at Sky Sports.

Although the England international only signed a new long-term deal back in September, he is expected to leave after reports he has fallen out with Mauricio Pochettino, per Jack Pitt-Brooke at The Independent.

Walker also posted a message on Instagram that hinted at a summer exit, as he thanked Spurs fans for all their support:

Like Walker, Pereira is an attacking full-back full of pace and stamina, and he is able to continually get up and down the pitch.

He is also strong in the tackle, good in possession and, as you may expect from a player who can also feature further forward, has good crossing ability.

If Tottenham are able to land the full-back for £20 million and sell Walker for double the amount, it looks a very good deal for Spurs, even if they are losing a player to one of their title rivals.

Not only will the club have replaced a key member of their squad with a younger and highly promising player in Pereira, it also appears to be a great deal financially for the club.
