Manchester United Transfer News: Ivan Perisic Fee Boost Amid Latest Rumours

Rory MarsdenJun 13, 2017

Manchester United target Ivan Perisic is reportedly "hugely keen and excited" to play under Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho. The Premier League outfit could benefit in their negotiations with Inter Milan, as the Italian club are under pressure to comply with financial fair play regulations.

According to The Independent's Miguel Delaney, personal terms are already agreed between winger Perisic and United but a fee is yet to be decided upon, with Inter keen for £15 million more for the Croatia international than is being offered.

Delaney added, though, that United could be boosted by the fact Inter have to pay £26 million by the end of June to comply with FFP, so they could be open to accepting a lower bid.

Sky Italia (via Sky Sports News HQ's Kaveh Solhekol) previously reported United were nearing Inter's asking price for Perisic with their latest bid:

While the transfer fee is clearly still an issue, Perisic's move to Old Trafford is looking increasingly inevitable—Delaney reported he is "desperate" for the switch.

The 28-year-old had a decent season in 2016-17, netting 11 goals and providing eight assists in Serie A for an Inter side that struggled as they finished seventh, per WhoScored.com.

Most comfortable playing as a classic left-winger, he is also able to play on the opposite flank or through the middle if needed.

The Croatian is also hardworking and fits the mould for the kind of attacking player Mourinho is fond of, per Italian football writer David Amoyal:

While Perisic may not be a worldwide star and there may be complaints of overpaying for him if United meet the £44 million asking price, Mourinho likely sees him as a perfect fit for the side he is building at Old Trafford.

Should United get the deal wrapped up soon, it would also constitute an astute piece of business done early in the transfer window.

Leaving signings until the last minute rarely pays dividends, and Mourinho has seemingly identified Perisic as a player he wants and is moving to sign him up as fast as possible.
