Chelsea Transfer News: Alvaro Morata Offer, Latest Cesc Fabregas Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 12, 2017

Chelsea will reportedly make one final attempt to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata after Manchester United beat them to the head of the queue for his signature. Elsewhere, manager Antonio Conte has decided to keep Cesc Fabregas.

Spanish newspaper Sport (h/t Metro) reported the Blues aren't yet ready to give up their pursuit of Morata and will offer a deal worth €75 million (£66 million) in their hopes of pipping the Red Devils to his signature.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is also said to be convinced that offer will be enough to prise Morata from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, despite claims United have already agreed terms and scheduled a medical with the player.

However, the small factor as to where Chelsea frontman Diego Costa stands amid speculation over Morata moving to west London throws a spanner in the works, as explained by Gianluca Di Marzio's David Amoyal:

Costa has led the Blues line since 2014 but recently declared he's no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge by Conte, per BBC Sport, who looks set to reinvest in another striking force this summer.

Morata came close to working under Conte at Juventus but could have a second bite of the cherry at Chelsea should Costa leave, and broadcaster Deji Kofi Faremi posted footage of the latter detailing his current status in west London:

United also have reason to invest in their attack after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Old Trafford stay came to an abrupt end when he suffered knee ligament damage towards the end of his only season with the Red Devils.

Despite failing to supersede the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at Real, Morata has proved himself to be a prolific weapon time and again, something Chelsea and United seem to be aware of.

Elsewhere, Conte has reportedly "abandoned plans" to cash in on Fabregas this summer and will keep the Spain international at Stamford Bridge despite a rocky first season together in the Premier League.

David Woods of the Daily Star reported a strong end to 2016-17 helped Fabregas convince Conte he should stay at Chelsea, something Goal's Nizaar Kinsella might well be happy to hear:

The 30-year-old started in 19 of his 38 total appearances last season, his first working alongside Conte, and a club source was even quoted by Woods, alleging Chelsea had even "tried a few times to sell him."

He will have a future with the Blues after all, however, and a strong push to the Premier League title and an FA Cup final has led to Conte renewing his faith in the former Arsenal man ahead of the new campaign.
