Knicks Rumors: Donovan Mitchell Reportedly Has Predraft Workout with New York
Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell will work out with the New York Knicks, who hold the No. 8 pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the team is "highly intrigued by Mitchell's defensive ability and versatility."
Knicks president Phil Jackson was among those in attendance at the CAA pro day, in which Mitchell was a participant.
DraftExpress rates the guard as the No. 11 player in the 2017 class.
At 6'3", Mitchell is a bit undersized for someone without true point guard skills. However, Mike Schmitz of DraftExpress believes this isn't a hindrance:
The sophomore was one of the biggest breakout stars of the college basketball season, averaging 15.6 points per game this year after scoring just 7.4 PPG as a freshman. He also improved his three-point shooting from 25.0 percent to 35.4 percent.
Mitchell also made as big of an impact on the other end of the court, averaging 2.1 steals per game while leading an elite Cardinals squad in both offensive and defensive win shares, per Sports Reference.
With the Knicks in need of plenty of backcourt help, Mitchell could be an immediate contributor if he is selected.
