According to Zach Lowe of ESPN.com on Thursday, Green called general manager Bob Myers after the Warriors' Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in last year's Finals and said, "It's on you," when discussing signing Durant.
Green then called Durant with what he said was "my very next call."
Rather than rue the Finals loss after Golden State blew a 3-1 lead, Green found a silver lining, saying, "If we win the championship, I'm like 99 percent sure we don't get him."
Now the Warriors will have a yearslong championship window if their core stays together, considering Green, Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are all under 30 years old.
Golden State didn't need to add Durant to be a title contender again after it won a record 73 games last season, but it is no secret he takes it to another plane. That has been on full display in the Finals, as he is averaging 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists a night.
He also drilled the go-ahead three in the final minute of a back-and-forth Game 3 and has guarded LeBron James for stretches.
Warriors fans can apparently thank Green for the opportunity to watch such greatness.
