Djokovic never recovered from a lost tiebreak in the first set on Wednesday, as the in-form Thiem dominated the rallies and negated his opponent's strong return to cruise into the semi-finals.
As shared by The Times' Stuart Fraser, the one-sided match will have a major effect on the men's standings when they are next released:
The Djoker has struggled for form all year long, and he was far from his best in Paris over the last two weeks. There were moments of brilliance and hope he could put it all together in the final rounds, but Thiem crushed those hopes in an emphatic way.
The Austrian faces an enormous task in the semi-finals, as he'll take on Nadal, who barely spent any time on the court on Wednesday. The nine-time French Open winner won the first set against Pablo Carreno Busta 6-2, and his opponent gave up early in the second.
Per David Law of BBC 5 live, Nadal's numbers at Roland Garros have been impressive of late:
The other semi-final will be between Wawrinka and Murray. The former has been in remarkable form in Paris and continued his fine run against Marin Cilic, losing just seven games on his way to an easy win.
Murray had a little more trouble with Kei Nishikori, who couldn't capitalise on any of the many momentum shifts.
The Scot was dominant when he didn't let his distractions get the better of him, however, and per betting company bet365, he added yet another impressive mark to his career achievements:
In the women's draw, Svitolina appeared to run out of gas after two close sets against Halep, and the more experienced player blew her off the court in the third. Garcia gave it all she had against Pliskova, but pure quality won out in the end.
