French Open 2017: Tuesday Roland Garros Schedule and Bracket Predictions

Tom SunderlandJun 5, 2017

Rafael Nadal will be back in action at the 2017 French Open on Tuesday when he takes on Pablo Carreno Busta in the men's quarter-finals after beating Roberto Bautista Agut to take his place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem will have his chance at revenge against Novak Djokovic on Suzanne-Lenglen Court, having lost 1-6, 0-6 to the Serb in the semi-finals of last month's Rome Masters. Stanislas Wawrinka will meet Marin Cilic in the fourth quarter-final showdown.

Andy Murray defeated Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday and will line up against No. 8 seed Kei Nishikori in the last eight after he surged from a set down to beat Fernando Verdasco 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

Preview

Murray has endured a difficult run at Roland Garros thus far and showed signs of wobbling against both Martin Klizan and Juan Martin Del Potro in the second and third rounds, respectively, but he's deserving of his place in the last eight.

It's the fourth year in a row the Scot has managed to make the quarter-finals in Paris, and his 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Khachanov on Monday also happened to mark a significant milestone in his career, per Tennis TV:

Nishikori will be no slouch in the next phase of the competition, although Murray has largely dominated their fixture in years gone by and boasts eight victories to the Japan star's two since first meeting in 2011.

Murray's endurance is often a firm advantage over his opponents, but Nishikori's movement makes him an alert enemy to take on, and tennis writer David Law noted it hasn't been long since the Asian representative last beat his European rival:

Elsewhere, Nadal will have to knock out another of his Spanish countrymen if he's to progress after setting up a quarter-final clash against Carreno Busta, who has failed to beat the nine-time French Open champ in all three of their previous meetings.

Unfortunately for the world No. 21, Carreno Busta will also be facing a Nadal who has extra motivation to move into the last four, per tennis blogger Chris Goldsmith:

A titanic encounter is set to unfold in the women's bracket, meanwhile, as Svitolina looks to continue her campaign to add to her 2017 silverware cabinet but faces extreme pressure from French Open favourite Halep.

The Ukrainian has been in fine form so far this year, but third seed Halep was irresistible en route to a 6-1, 6-1 thumping of Carla Suarez Navarro on Monday, leaving her foe with little choice except to applaud in the aftermath:

Svitolina has breathed new life into the women's hierarchy after winning four WTA titles already this year, and she'll need to be at her best if she's to down Halep, who is currently looking near unstoppable on clay.

Mladenovic also has a tough fixture on her hands as she seeks to end Bacsinszky's run at Roland Garros, although the Swiss star has already clinched one substantial victory by beating No. 10 seed Venus Williams in the fourth round.
