Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Nashville Predators Game 4 Odds, NHL Betting Pick
The Nashville Predators will try to continue their momentum picked up from a 5-1 rout in Game 3 when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins as solid home favorites for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final Monday.
The Preds gave up an early goal but showed great composure in blanking the defending champion Penguins the rest of the way, improving to 8-1 at home in the playoffs.
Betting line: The Predators opened as -137 favorites (wager $137 to win $100); the total is at 5.5 goals, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)
NHL betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 3.2-2.4, Penguins (NHL picks on every game)
Why the Penguins can pay on the NHL lines
Pittsburgh has gone 0-for-10 on the power play the last two games and will be dangerous when the team finally gets that unit going again. The Pens have certainly had their share of opportunities, so it's just a matter of time before they start clicking.
Neither Sidney Crosby nor Evgeni Malkin had any shots in Game 3, and they are definitely capable of playing much better as well. If goaltender Matt Murray can bounce back from a tough performance between the pipes, Pittsburgh can head home up 3-1.
Why the Predators can pay on the NHL lines
Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne came through when his team needed him the most in Game 3, and he has now allowed no more than one goal in six of eight home wins this postseason. Rinne really needed to play well in that spot, and he must perform even better here in hopes of evening the series going back to PPG Paints Arena on Thursday.
Unlike the Pens, the Preds have taken advantage of the power play, converting on 2-of-3 in Game 3 and improving to 4-of-10 in the series. Pittsburgh also saw firsthand just how tough it is to play at Bridgestone Arena.
Smart betting pick
The Pens have not lost the first two road games of any of the first three series in this year's playoffs, and they have proved time and time again to be a championship-caliber team that comes through whenever you start doubting them.
This is not a must-win game for Pittsburgh, and Nashville will be under much more pressure to earn another home victory. Murray will play much better in net for the Pens, who will squeak by the Preds in what could be an overtime affair to move just one win away from repeating.
