Stephen Curry Ties NBA Finals Record with 10 Free Throws in Quarter

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry tied the NBA Finals record for made free throws in a quarter Sunday night when he drilled all 10 of his first-quarter attempts from the charity stripe in Game 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Paul Pierce also made 10 in a quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2008 NBA Finals.

Prior to the first 12 minutes of Game 2, Curry had not made more than 10 free throws in an entire game this postseason.

ESPN's Tom Haberstroh noted Curry's previous career high for free throws in the first quarter was six.

Curry scored 10 of his 15 first-quarter points at the charity stripe Sunday. His ability to get to the line repeatedly enabled the Warriors to erupt for 40 points in the opening frame.

During the first quarter, the Western Conference champions shot an efficient 52.2 percent from the field, including 45.5 percent from three, as NBA TV documented on Twitter:

That performance bodes well for the Warriors, who are 22-0 this season when they score at least 35 points in the first quarter, according to ESPN.com's Arash Markazi.
