Also a Hart Trophy finalist for MVP alongside the Pittsburgh Penguin's Sidney Crosby and the Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid, Bobrovsky was in a class of his own throughout the 2016-17 season.
Over the course of 63 starts, Bobrovsky went 41-17-5 with a league-leading save percentage of .931 and No. 1 goals-against average mark of 2.06. Furthermore, Bobrovsky contributed a league-high 14.9 goalie point shares, which estimate the number of points he contributed thanks to his play in goal, according to Hockey Reference.
Those numbers were particularly impressive considering Bobrovsky struggled a bit the year prior.
In 37 starts during the 2015-16 season, Bobrovsky posted a .908 save percentage and concerning 2.75 goals-against average. His 5.3 goalie point shares during that stretch were also the second-lowest of his career.
"There were lessons from last season," Bobrovsky told the team's official website, per NHL.com's Brian Compton. "The rest of it you try to throw in the garbage, reset your mind, relax, and get ready for what's next. It doesn't matter what happened yesterday. Tomorrow is most important and today is the life; that's the thing."
Bobrovsky will now attempt to build on his best season to date as the Blue Jackets eye another 100-point campaign after they crossed the century mark for the first time in franchise history.
