Antoine Griezmann Says He's Happy at Atletico Madrid Amid Transfer Rumours

James DudkoMay 31, 2017

Antoine Griezmann has cooled talk linking him with a move away from La Liga this summer by saying he's happy at Atletico Madrid.

The prolific wide forward was speaking while on international duty with France, per AS-English, and made it clear the idea of him moving is far from certain.

"I am good at the club," he said. "My agents are talking with Atletico and we will see what happens. My future will be decided this summer. If I do leave this summer, the date will depend on the qualifying phase of the World Cup."

Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months. However, the French international revealed he is content after talks with senior figures at Atleti, per AS"I am happy here. I have spoken with the manager, with Koke and Godin. It is in the hands of the president of the club. We will see how it goes."

Griezmann says he's still happy with Atletico.

While Griezmann says he's happy in the Spanish capital, the phrase "see how it goes" seems to leave the door ajar for a potential move away. The speculation linking him with United isn't going away, despite Atleti standing firm over the Red Devils having to pay the former Real Sociedad man's €100 million release clause, per James Ducker of the Daily Telegraph.

However, beIN Sports correspondent Tancredi Palmeri believes United remain undeterred and have even agreed terms with the the prolific 26-year-old:

Meanwhile, Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News thinks Griezmann will follow fellow France international Paul Pogba, who joined United in a world-record deal last summer, to Old Trafford:

United seem serious, while Griezmann is coyly choosing his words carefully regarding Atletico. However, any sale could be threatened by Atleti's transfer ban, with the club's appeal widely expected to be rejected, per reports in Spain (h/t Football-Espana.net).

This burgeoning transfer saga may drag on a little longer.
