Minor League Player Strikes Out on Rolling Short Pitch

Rivea RuffMay 27, 2017

It's pretty rare to strike out on a rolling, grounded pitch.

However, that's what Colorado Rockies prospect Josh Fuentes managed to do Friday in the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats' game versus the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

At the top of the eighth inning, pitcher Cory Burns tossed the baseball just past the mound after seeming to mess up his grip. The ball hit the ground before rolling in the direction of home plate, and Fuentes apparently decided to swing at it as a goof.

The umpire decided to count the swing, and with two strikes already, Fuentes had struck out to end the inning.

The Rumble Ponies eventually won the contest 5-4.
