Draymond Green Holds Grudge Against Gordon Hayward from 2010 Final Four
Draymond Green never forgets.
Back in 2010, he had a chance to send his Michigan State Spartans to the NCAA championship game. Down 50-49 to the Butler Bulldogs in the national semifinals, the forward posted up Gordon Hayward. His shot fell short, resulting in a Butler victory, but Hayward hit Green's arm.
Seven years later, Green was shown a photo of the play. Per the Mercury News’ Anthony Slater, and the Golden State Warriors star immediately made his opinion known.
"Foul," he said. "They cheated us out of a national championship. How do you get away with that? How do you get away with that?"
OK, but maybe the picture conjured up old memories. Or maybe not. He said he remembers the college moment whenever encountering the Utah Jazz star.
"Hell yes. Absolutely," Green said. "That's still a vendetta I have. I still hold that grudge. I still think about that every time I play him."
Perhaps he can finally let the missed call go after his Warriors swept Hayward's Jazz in the Western Conference Semifinals. Green never won a collegiate national title (and Hayward's Bulldogs lost in the final to Duke), but he's four victories away from earning his third straight NBA Finals appearance.
