Mychal Kendricks Reportedly Subject of 49ers Trade Before Reuben Foster Drafted
The San Francisco 49ers reportedly had their eyes on Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks earlier in the offseason but aren't as likely to pursue him following the NFL draft.
Kevin Jones of KNBR reported Sunday San Francisco "discussed a trade" with Philadelphia regarding Kendricks but said the deal is "unlikely now" after the 49ers drafted Alabama's Reuben Foster.
Kendricks has been with the Eagles his entire career since they drafted him in the second round in 2012.
Eagles vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said "Yes, they are here and we fully anticipate they're going to be here going forward," when talking about Kendricks and center Jason Kelce on Saturday, per Dave Zangaro of CSN Philly.
As for the 49ers, they landed a defensive playmaker in Foster who tallied 115 tackles and five sacks as one of the Crimson Tide's defensive leaders in 2016. Alabama won the SEC and advanced to the College Football Playoff national championship game largely because of its stout defense.
San Francisco was dead last in the league in scoring defense and against the run in 2016 and could use a tackle machine like Foster next year and beyond.
