Scott Drew Is the Next Coach K

I may be going out on a limb here, but I believe that Baylor Basketball Head Coach Scott Drew is the next Mike Krzyzewski (affectionately called “Coach K” by Blue Devils and hoops fans around the globe).

Regardless of one’s views on Duke’s program, no one can argue that Coach K hasn’t brought the Blue Devils to the pinnacle of greatness and beyond in college basketball.

And it took some time and some heartache—just look at Coach K’s beginning times in Durham and you’ll see that people were calling for his head, not affectionately looking for a new nickname for their coach.

To a certain degree, Coach Drew hasn’t had to face quite that amount of adversity when taking over the Baylor basketball program—mainly due to the fact that Drew was walking into a lose-lose situation with the Bears when he took over at the helm a few years ago.

Walking into the lion’s den, Coach Drew came out victorious. He continues to amaze me with his incredible demeanor and loving attitude towards both his players as well as the green and gold he represents.

Since taking over as the Baylor hoops coach, the Bears have done remarkable things—and it almost all has to do with Coach Drew and his wonderful ways of working with college kids.

Last season alone, he had three seniors that graduated and were looked at by professional basketball teams, and I truly believe that we may see all three of those Bears in the NBA one day.

Baylor is also becoming much more consistent in the Big 12—grabbing highly-touted recruits along the way—and it’s only a matter of time before we see the Bears return to the Big Dance.

Scott Drew is the next Coach K.

It may take some time to see it, but I have no doubt that Coach Drew has the brains, the talent, and the ability to succeed as a college basketball coach in the highly competitive Big 12 Conference.

With the 2010 season right around the corner, get ready for Drew and the Bears to come out and make a statement this year in college hoops. We’ve got the ingredients to win, now let’s hit the hardwood and prove we can make it to March Madness…
